Best Build in Wanderburg (Current Patch)

There is no single best build, but the strongest general-purpose package players report is Archer Tower plus Side Ballista and Turret Layer — ranged pressure from three faces that keeps firing while you circle. Everything else is a specialisation.

Pick a damage family first

Every module belongs to a damage family — guns, arrows, magic or melee — and so do the artifacts that boost them. A build works when one family carries and the rest supports it. Spreading upgrades across families is the most common way a run stalls at the third or fourth boss.

Rules that hold across patches

  • Keep one main damage family and upgrade it hard instead of levelling everything evenly.
  • Fill every module slot you own — an empty face is a blind spot while you turn.
  • Add mobility before more damage once the castle gets large; late runs are lost to positioning, not DPS.
  • Buy the Captain that matches the family, not the highest tier: see Captains Tier List.

Community reports, build 0.9.8. Balance shifts between Early Access patches, so confirm the current behaviour in game before committing Silver. Artifact synergies are covered on the side modules page and in each build guide below.

FAQ

FAQ

Common questions about this topic.

What is the best build in Wanderburg?

Community reports favour Archer Tower plus Side Ballista and Turret Layer as the strongest general package. Cannon, Ram, Mage and Summon builds are stronger in specific situations.

Should I upgrade everything evenly?

No. Committing to one damage family and its artifacts is far stronger than spreading upgrades across unrelated families.

Do builds need a Captain?

Captains amplify a build, but they are not the first purchase. Fix a missing damage module before buying a Captain.

Do builds change between patches?

Yes. Wanderburg is in Early Access and patches rebalance modules and damage, so re-check after each update.
